Al-Aqsa Mosque stands as an ancient sacred structure, holding the distinction of being the first Qibla and the second mosque established on Earth according to the sayings of the Prophet Muhammed. Legend has it that Adam (peace be upon him) was the first to construct the mosque. Its boundaries were defined after forty years of the Sacred House's foundation, as commanded by Allah.
In Sahih Imam Bukhari (Fath al-Bari 6/408), Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet, "O Messenger of Allah, which mosque was the earliest on Earth?" The Prophet replied, "The Sacred Mosque."/”Al-Masjid Al-Haram” Abu Dharr inquired further, "And then?" The Prophet answered, "Al-Aqsa Mosque." When asked about the time span between them, the Prophet said it was forty years. He advised to pray wherever the time for prayer arrives since the entire Earth is a place of worship.
Around 1800 BCE, the prophet Ibrahim migrated from Iraq to these lands and laid the foundations of the Sacred House. Following Ibrahim, Isaac and Yaqub continued this legacy. Prophet Solomon rebuilt it around 1000 BCE.
During the Islamic conquest of Jerusalem in 636 CE (15 AH), Umar ibn al-Khattab built the Qiblī Mosque as a part of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Later, in the Umayyad Era, the Dome of the Rock was constructed, overseen by the Palestinian Muslim scholar, Raja ibn Haywa. The construction of the Qiblī Mosque spanned around 30 years, from 66 AH / 658 CE to 96 AH / 715 CE, marking the completion of Al-Aqsa Mosque in its current form.
