On January 5th, 1948, the terrorist group "Irgun" detonated explosives at the Semiramis Hotel located in the Qatamon neighborhood. The hotel collapsed, trapping and killing all its occupants, who were Arabs. Twenty-six Arabs were martyred in this massacre, and more than 20 were injured.
The aim of the terrorist attack was to pressure Palestinians in the affluent Qatamon neighborhood in the western part of Jerusalem to leave.
At that time, the Haganah attempted to justify its attack by claiming that the hotel was a meeting point for Palestinian resistance, but this was refuted by British authorities and through assessments of the damage following the attack.
The explosion resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, most of whom were Palestinians, including at least one child.
