Talbiya Camp | Our Palestine

Area: 0.13 km2

Estimated Number of Refugees in the Camp: 7,583

Established: 1967

Talbiya Camp is one of the six emergency camps established to accommodate 5,000 Palestinian refugees and displaced persons who fled the West Bank and Gaza Strip during the Arab-Israeli War in 1967.

Unlike the other camps in Jordan, the residents of Talbiya Camp are primarily displaced persons rather than refugees. Additionally, its inhabitants are mostly of Bedouin origin.

The camp covers an area of 0.13 square kilometers located 35 kilometers south of Amman. It is the largest camp in Jordan in terms of land area. The Red Crescent and the Iranian Red Crescent Society donated tents, which were later replaced with cement housing units.

Many of the houses are in poor condition and require repairs, such as zinc or asbestos roofs, structural issues, inadequate natural lighting, and ventilation.
