Mahmoud Bakr Hijazi is the first Palestinian to be captured by the Israeli occupation forces. He was born and raised in the city of Jerusalem.

Hijazi was captured after carrying out an operation with a group of Palestinian fedayeen to blow up a bridge near the town of Beit Jibrin on January 17, 1965, following the 'Al-Burj' operation. During the operation, he engaged with Israeli forces, securing the withdrawal of his five-member group, but he was wounded and subsequently captured.

The Zionist occupation sentenced him to death, but the sentence was not carried out.

He was released on January 28, 1971, as part of a prisoner exchange between the occupation state and the Fatah movement. He was released in exchange for the Israeli soldier "Shmuel Weiss," who was captured by Fatah at the end of 1969.
