Abu Jendel is the nom de guerre of Youssef Ahmed Rayhan was born in the village of Yabad Al-Qassam on 12/5/1965 AD to a religious Palestinian village family.

As a 16-year-old, he travelled to Jordan and joined the Palestinian revolution there, he completed his education at the Polytechnic Industrial Institute, Department of Electricity.

He went to Syria where he joined the PLA artillery course.

He moved to Lebanon, where he joined Major General Yassin Saadeh from the commanders of the Palestine Liberation Army(PLA) battalions.

The Zionist media admitted that the martyr Abu Jandal was responsible for killing 56 Zionists and wounding many of them, destroying more than 10 tanks, burning a military bulldozer and injuring a helicopter with damage.

The martyr was injured during the siege of Beirut in the mouth and chest area, where one of the bullets settled half a centi from the heart, and was injured in his right hand, he was transferred as a result of these injuries to a hospital in the Zahlin area, where his assassination was transferred there, but it failed.

After Oslo, the martyr returned to the homeland, settled and then appointed as a trainer of the Palestinian police and security forces in Jericho.

In Jenin, he worked to establish a military unit of security personnel called the Executive Unit.

With the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa uprising (Intifada), the martyr had a major role in the resistance, he supervised and planned some military operations, and he also formed two units of security personnel to strike Zionist targets, the first unit consisted of 56 elements and the second unit included 36 other elements.

As the date of confrontation in Jenin camp approached, the martyr stood with his comrades who were determined to steadfastly and bat until the last man of them in the camp square and they collectively swear by the oath of martyrdom and Rabat, either victory. As for martyrdom, then the martyr Youssef chanted and said: “We are the army of Muhammad..” The battle began.

On Sunday, 13/4/2002 AD, at dawn, Youssef Rehan, nicknamed Abu Jandal, was martyred after the ammunition in his possession was carried out, where the occupation soldiers arrested and executed him.

Abu Jendel became a symbol of Palestinian resistance and his death was mourned by Palestinians around the world. He is remembered as a brave and dedicated fighter who sacrificed his life for his country.
